EDITORIAL. Cont'd.
Why President Bush "American Democracy" will never work in Iraq.
Unfortunately it is true. For instance, it is illegal to carry or own a gun in the District of Columbia. If the police catches you carrying a revolver, you will be arrested on the spot, handcuffed and thrown in jail. Yet, walk only 100 feet from the end of M street in Georgetown, Washington, DC to the bridge separating the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Virginia, just very few feet outside Washington, DC and all of a sudden, you will have all the rights to buy and own a gun. Very strange indeed! Foreigners from around the globe don't have a lot of respect for the "rationale" and "intelligence" of American democratic laws. They explain: "If the same democratic law is constitutional, fair and lawful in one state in America, and unconstitutional and unlawful in other states, then there is no consistency, truthfulness, guarantee to protect human and civil rights in the way and methods American people from various states create their own laws. If the Americans themselves do not agree on one single national law as the law of the land and if different Americans in different American states see, interpret and obey different and contradictory law (s) in so many different ways, in so many different states, then there is no truth, consistency, substance and equality in the American juridical system.". Another group of foreigners told me: "If the Americans do not agree on one single law applicable to all Americans, and each American state creates its own laws, this should tell you that Americans agree to disagree on everything and especially on what is the most important characteristics of Democracy: LAW. The same law for everybody. Democracy in America is established differently in different states according to different laws and different people. Frankly, we do not need this kind of democracy and legal system in our countries."
IT MUST BE A REASON WHY OUR FRIENDS, ALLIES AND ENEMIES HATE OUR GUTS!!
Thousands of pilots, servicemen and servicewomen, military commanders and troops died in the second world war to liberate France, Italy, Greece and save England. Yet, the Brits, the Italian, the Greeks and the French wanted the Americans out of their countries. Even, during the fierce battles of WWII and while the American troops and airmen/airwomen were stationed in England, ready to be shipped to Africa and Germany to fight the Nazis and enemies of England, and ultimately sacrificing their lives to save England, the British troops were frequently heard telling our fighting men and women abroad: "The Yanks are overpaid. The Yanks are oversexed. And the Americans are overhere." The Brits resented and disdained the presence of the American troops and military in England. A few years after the second world war and following the liberation of France, General de Gaule expulsed the American troops from France and closed down the American military bases in France. The same thing happened in Panama, Greece, Grenada, Italy, Spain, Japan, Kuwait, Philippines, Haiti, Germany and almost everywhere American troops and politicians landed! Why? We will discuss this delicate topic in our next issue. Thank you for listening. So long!
