DEAR PEGGY: LETTERS TO THE EDITOR                                                                                                                             peggy-north@monthlyherald.com

Photo: The prisoner abuse scandal undermined support for the US

Dear Ms Peggy: For the last two years the United States had secured special status for US troops, arguing they could face malicious prosecutions. The UK was one of the few countries that planned to back the US. Washington also has bilateral agreements with 89 others to protect US troops from prosecution. How do you defend such malicious double standards. On one hand, the United States preached the world on justice and democracy. On the other hand, the United States wants to wash her hands from responsibility and atrocious acts committed by her troops. I call this arrogance and total disrespect for international decency. Harvey Cummings, Kent, UK.

UK AND IRAN ARE LYING

Blindfolded UK sailor

Dear Peggy: The UK defence officials said the six Royal Marines and two sailors who were detained on Monday, were training the Iraqi river patrol service, and may have mistakenly strayed over the maritime border. The Iranian officials said the naval launches, the arms and equipment that the British servicemen had with them were used to spy on Iran. Who is telling the truth? Can we trust the Iranians? Negative. Can we trust the UK defence ministry? Negative. We are simply left with lies on both sides of the fence. Both are lying. And that's is the name of the game in politics. Robert Moore, Dublin, Ireland.

Bill Clinton's autobiography on sale in US shop. BETWEEN BUSH AND KIM JONG-IL, POLITIC BECOMES A DIRTY BUSINESS

Dear Peggy: Please allow me to voice out my concern about the recent development concerning the deal Bush is trying to bring to the negotiations with the North Koreans.  It is very possible that North Korean leader Kim Jong-iI  wants to stall on any deal until after the US elections in November, in the hope that President George W Bush will lose office. It is also very possible that Bush wants to have some kind of political success on the international arena since he is losing at home. Politic is a dirty business. I never trusted politicians and  I will never do. Suleiman Bakri, Manama, Bahrain.

BILL CLINTON'S "MY LIFE"

Photo: President Bill Clinton's memoirs are flying off the shelves like hot cakes.

Hi Peggy: Bill Clinton will never be considered as a great president. His autobiography is a joke. His book  is a classic Clinton mixture of confession and accusation. In his book, Clinton  burns with bitterness and hatred towards those who impeached him. Daniel Brown, New York, USA.
