TRUST SECRETARY POWELL, NOT BUSH

Iraqi militantsPhoto: Al Sadar fighter in Iraq.

Finally, the Bush administration faces the music and admits that the US has a serious problem on its hand. But President Bush is determined to assure the American public that everything is going to be under control. Do not take his word for granted. If we have to believe someone, somebody in his government, Secretary Powell would be the only one. Secretary of State Colin Powell was speaking after atrocious militant attacks on Thursday which left more than 100 people dead and 125 wounded in five cities in Iraq and humbly admitted that we are in troubles. He said word for word " The US had underestimated the extent of the insurgency, which had become a "serious problem." More than 40 people died in Baquba, Ramadi, Falluja and Baghdad and three US soldiers were killed in yesterday's raids in the Sunni Muslim heartland. Is there anybody at The White House who can advise Bush to stop maligning the truth and come forward clean and humble? My lord, this man is so stubborn. He still believes that law and order are at his reach. And this makes me vomit. Imagine what will happen if he wins the election. More tragic bloody fights will erupt in Iran, Syria and God knows where else. Paul Zuckermann, New Jersey, USA

WHERE IS AL ZARQAWI? DON'T ASK THE CIA, THEY DON'T KNOW THEIR RIGHT FROM THEIR LEFT!

Dear Ms. Peggy: Al Zarqawi is not in Fallujah. And if he is there, the CIA will never find him. They don't know their right from their left. The US captured Saddam because many Iraqis hated him but Al Zarqawi has become now a national hero. Nobody will dare to report on him. Almost every person I talked to about Al Zarqawi believes that the US created Al Zarqawi. One guy from Basra told me Al Zarqawi is more dangerous than Bin Ladden because he has infiltrated the royal house of Saud and the police of Iraq. Rafic Habash, Dubai, U.A.E.

BUSH'S YANKS DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING

Hi Peggy: As you already know, ten British men are still being held by the Americans at a Cuban camp.  Lord Goldsmith said there can be "no compromise" on certain principles and the US tribunals would not offer a fair trial. They are retaining our men for no apparent reason except suspicions. Five of them were returned to Britain  and were quickly freed without charge. This is a clear indication that the Bush's Yanks don't know what they are doing. Similar incidents occurred when the FBI arrested 45 Arab-American citizens in New York and Michigan for various charges, later on to be freed without formal apologies. The CIA needs an immediate international reorganization and the current director of the FBI must be fired without further delay. Rich Richardson, London, UK.

YOUR MAXIMILLIEN DE LAFAYETTE WAS RIGHT. BRITAIN'S JEREMY GREENSTOCK CONVINCED ME.

Jeremy Greenstock, the former British representative in Iraq, declared that no democracy based on the western model could be instituted in this country. Your Maximillien de Lafayette was right. He was the first journalist and political analyst to say it. His editorial on democracy, Bush and Iraq is a must read piece. Roland Bronson, Kent, UK.
