DEAR PEGGY: LETTERS TO THE EDITOR peggy-north@monthlyherald.com
MAIL: THIRD POUCH
MUSLIMS TARGETING THE UK, AND THE MONTHLY HERALD IS PUBLISHING AN ARTICLE IN HOW GREAT ISLAM IS!
Since 9/11, many British Muslims have exported their
extremism. But until the bombing of a British consulate in Turkey last month,
British targets never were attacked. "The attack on British interests in
Istanbul was a major, major attack. Britain had been safe prior to that. Now
that this has happened, it quite clearly means that the Islamic terror network
is targeting the U.K. One week after the Istanbul bombings, British police
arrested a Muslim man in Gloucester, U.K., and charged him under anti-terror
laws with conspiring with Reid. "This man has connections with a network of al
Qaeda groups," said David Blunkett, Britain's Home Office minister. "We would
not have taken these steps if we didn't believe that this individual posed a
very real threat." That same day, authorities searched a Muslim school in
northern England, and made more arrests in other British locales including
Manchester, Cambridge and London. Ever since 9/11, when Britain lost more
people than any country besides the United States, the British have feared
that Prime Minister Tony Blair's decision to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with
America in the war on terror would come at a price. During the war in
Afghanistan, Britain was one of many countries siding with America.
But then came Iraq, and Britain's involvement despite the absence
of other traditional U.S. allies, such as France, Germany and Canada.
President Bush said the United States would remember who its friends were. It
seems al Qaeda and its like noticed, as well. Recently, Britain has been on a
security alert — the country's second-highest level, and the highest it has
been since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. It is evident to all of us that
Muslims, moderate or fanatic are targeting the U.K. in one way or another. The
monthly Herald should have exposed the Islamic fanatic attempts on British
citizens. Instead, you published a "cosmic" article on how Great Islam is?

INTERNATIONAL READERSHIP HELPING INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS: YANNI, ZAMPHIR, RIEU, SOPHIA DALLE
Hi Peggy: I like very much your magazine because it is truly international. It caters to readers from all the countries. And what I like most are your articles on artists who are internationally know but not popular in America. Americans are not interested in foreign artists. They are not familiar with the names of outstanding artists from Europe, South America and the Middle East. In fact, they don't care. They read stuff about Britney Spears, Oprah, Madonna, Michael Jackson and that's it. Your magazine is truly wonderful because it covers so many varied aspects of music, culture, arts and civilization. This is what I call mature journalism. I am a fan of three great European musicians who are very well-known in Europe and in the world. Andre Rieu, the prince of the violin, Yanni and Zamfir the master of the pan flute.

You have already written a wonderful article about Mr. Rieu. Now, it is the time to write about Yanni and Zamphir. The American magazines don't write about them and I understand why. Your magazine is read all over the world. You have an international readership and you are powerful. I think if you write more articles about accomplished musicians and artists from foreign countries, you will give the opportunity to our friends in America to learn more about foreign arts and culture. Also, what I like very much about your magazine is the extensive and in-depth articles you write about people and important issues. You give us so much information on each topic and help us get informed with informative and stimulating articles like the Public Television which I watch all the time. Also what I like is what you do for helping great artists who are not yet well-known but are talented and unique. We need to learn more about those artists. I just read an article about American singer Sophia Dalle. I do not know
