LONDON GOSSIPS
POLICE PULL OVER JACKO
An employee at the store in Colorado called police and gave a description of the vehicle and Jackson was stopped a short time later. Police asked Jackson to identify himself, which he did by removing his mask. "There were no problems, and that was it," a police spokesman said. Jackson spokeswoman Raymone Bain said the incident was a trifle. "The police car pulled to the side and just asked that he show his face, and he did, and that was it," Bain said. "There was no altercation or any kind of encounter." The singer is known to wear disguises when in public. Jackson is staying at a 56-acre ranch in Old Snowmass while on holiday with his children. He has been keeping a relatively low profile, but has been spotted at several shops in nearby Aspen. He is facing child molestation charges in California. His visit was announced in a press release Bain issued last week to address rumours that the 45-year-old singer had checked himself into a drug rehabilitation centre.
WORKING AT THE CARWASH
George
Clooney is doing his bit for the American political process by promising to
wash cars - for a fee. The Hollywood hunk made the offer in a bid to raise
funds for his father's campaign to be elected Democratic congressman for
Kentucky. The Daily Star says the 42-year-old made the offer in a
handwritten appeal to potential donors. They have been invited to a
fund-raising dinner at his Californian mansion next month. But the paper says
the successful bidders must be prepared to fork out hefty sums. The Oceans
Eleven star has priced his car-valeting at anywhere between £250 and £2,000 a
throw. His appeal pledges: "I'll wash your car every week 'til it's paid off."
HYRISE EURO FAVOURITES
The
bookies are backing boyband Hyrise to win selection as Britain's
representative in the Eurovision Song Contest. Six acts, including an
assortment of former boyband stars and talent show winners, will be slugging
it out live on television in a bid for viewers' support. Whoever wins the
public vote will represent Britain in May in Turkey. They cannot do worse than
last year's UK entry, Jemini, whose "nil points" amounted to Britain's worst
result in 47 years. Hyrise will be singing Leading Me On, named after Buck's
Fizz's winning song in 1981. Also competing are girl band Enrap-ture, female
soloist Haifa, Fame Academy's James Fox, Madison Taylor from south Wales, and
former Ultimate Kaos frontman Haydon Eshun. Bookmakers William Hill rate
Hyrise favourites at 5-2, followed by James Fox at 3-1, Enrap-ture at 7-2,
Haydon Eshun at 4-1, Haifa at 9-2 and Madison Taylor at 8-1. The UK is 12-1 to
win the contest this year, but 16-1 for another "nil points" fiasco.
