PHENOMENON                                                                                                     JENNIFER TERRAN: Most Unusual Artist. A Film Noire Singer-Magician!                                                                                                                                                                                                                  By Maximillien de Lafayette

Photo by Anne Fishbein 2001Jennifer Terran is an unusual, very unusual kind of artists and quite a woman! A truly magnificent Film Noire Diva and a world-class songwriter-singer. This woman is unique, captivating vocalist, pianist,  tenderly rebellious songwriter, producer by raison d'etre and necessity, hip-hop dynamic instructor and dancer,  story-teller, an existentialist philosopher, an emotionally and intellectually charged teaser and provocative presence and most certainly a daring-devil entrepreneur. It is hard not to notice her presence in a room, or not to gaze at the way she moves, she talks and most certainly it is quite impossible not to get fully absorbed by  the crafty style she adopted to scream life in her songs and music. Quite a woman and quite an artist indeed! She has already released on her own and independent record label, Grizelda Records, four splendid  records "Cruel", "Rabbit",  Live from Painted Cave" and the internationally acclaimed "The Musician".

Terran: "Feel like a secret and I'm going to strike. "

This captivating and unusual artist expresses herself in a most unorthodox and alarmingly delightful way.  To her, all she knows is that her job is to dig down deep and put it out there, naked, real, just her honest truth and  total love, expressed to her best ability through the music.  Jennifer explained that "As an independent artist, I had gotten to the point where the job of getting the music out there was getting in the way of me creating and playing the music. So I decided to disappear from view, get back to what was real and put all my energy into making a recording that would really speak for me. And that is essentially what went down." The journey of making her most recent and extremely captivating album "The Musicians" was  paved with bliss and inspiration, sometimes with utter hell and sadness.  Terran adds: "And if I seem overly dramatic here, I'm sorry, but what can I say. I had never worked this hard for anything in my whole life! My drive and commitment to making this CD was ridiculous high. I suppose, because I knew I was getting down to what was really important to me in this world. And I knew I was engaged in something very special, if not for just myself, but for the people who could potentially understand."

She wrote:

"Understand
I'm not sad
This feels good
And someday…
I'll be heard
There's this urgency for expression
It's the instinct
It's my prerogative
It's my meaning." And somewhere else she wrote:

 Oh come on over
And bring your pretty blue pills
Let's try for inspiration
And say no to the world
so we can get back to what is real
I get consumed
with the telephone
With my appointments
With the bills
When everything I do
is for love and for music."
