Sanford
Biggers:
Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH, United States of America
The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) presents Sanford Biggers “Both/And Not Either/Or”, an exhibition that will embrace Japanese hip-hop, Buddhist tradition, and African-American power on May 28 through August 16. Sanford Biggers is a New York-based artist whose sculptural installations draw from a remarkably diverse range of sources, including Eastern religions, black vernacular expression, 1970s process art, urban street culture, and new technologies. He works with discarded and overlooked materials—linoleum, lumber, recyclables—seamlessly blending ancient and contemporary, local and global images to encourage a reconsideration and revaluation of everyday experience and meditation on the interconnectedness of all people and cultures. For the CAC, Biggers will produce a new exhibition environment entitled “Both/And Not Either/Or.” The exhibition will focus on a bell choir ceremony in Japan where he explores the connection between contemporary and ancestral. Biggers’ exhibition will draw together elements of sculpture, music, performance and video documentation. Biggers received his B.A. from Morehouse College and his M.F.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has had recent solo exhibitions at the Berkeley Art Museum and the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. His work has also been featured in such group exhibitions as the 2002 Whitney Biennial, Freestyle at The Studio Museum in Harlem, and One Planet Under a Groove at The Bronx Museum of the Arts. This exhibition is organized by the CAC.
About
the Contemporary Arts Center: Founded in 1939 as the Modern Art Society by
three visionary women in Cincinnati, the Contemporary Arts Center was one of
the first institutions in the U.S. dedicated to exhibiting the art of our
time. In May 2003, the Center relocated to its first free-standing home, the
Lois & Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art, designed by Zaha Hadid.
Throughout its distinguished 64-year history, the Center has earned a

work of diverse artists from around the world, including hundreds of
now-famous artists such as Laurie Anderson, Jasper Johns, Louise Nevelson, Nam

focuses on new developments in painting, sculpture, photography, architecture,
performance art and new media, presenting 8 to 12 exhibitions and 20 to 40
performances annually. Occupying the entire sixth floor of the new Lois &

Artist Interactive, Denver, CO, United States of America
Artist Interactive, “The Internet
Service Provider with a Heart for the Arts,” announced a national plan to help
arts organizations generate support organically from patrons’ Internet
subscriptions. “Arts supporters tend to be most supportive of creative
fundraisers to help their favorite organizations,” said Paul Kowalczyk,
president of Artist Interactive. “When the support is derived from a basic
need like Internet usage, there tends to be increased participation and
enthusiasm.” Artist Interactive gives back 10 percent of monthly Internet
usage fees to patrons’ arts organizations of choice. The provider’s services
are competitive, fast and reliable with thousands of access numbers for
connectivity throughout the United States and Canada and 24/7 technical
support. “We work closely with the arts organizations to promote the plan
tastefully, in a manner to which the patrons are accustomed,” Kowalczyk said.
“Once the patrons sign on, there is complete discretion to protect the
organization and ensure long-term, residual funding effortlessly.” In
addition, the company offers Web site design and Web hosting packages with all
the required elements to create and maintain an enduring and secure Web
presence for artists, galleries, arts organizations and companies. Hosting
