Colours of Medieval Cyprus
Aspects of Daily Life 1191 - 1571
Tuesday 4 - Sunday 30 May
To celebrate the accession of Cyprus to the European Union on 1 May
2004, the Hellenic Centre is hosting a unique exhibition of medieval
glazed pottery, jewellery, rare maps, books and other objects
presenting a fascinating insight into daily life on Cyprus at the
time.
A crossroads between East and West for almost half a millennium,
this small island shows the influences of Frankish nobles, Genoese
traders, and Venetian lords. This innovative exhibition will take
the visitor on a captivating journey showing varied aspects of
medieval Cypriot life, mainly through the display of characteristic
lead glazed and beautifully decorated pottery - wildlife, people at
work, wedding scenes and much more are brought vividly to life.
Organised by the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia and the
Hellenic Centre in association with the Ministry of Education and
Culture, Cyprus, in memory of Deno Leventis. Sponsored by the A G
Leventis Foundation and the Ministry of Education and Culture,
Cyprus, with the support of Cyprus Airways and the Friends of the
Leventis Municipal Museum.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday 10.00 am - 6.00 pm (Tuesdays 9.30
pm), Saturday and Sunday 12.00 - 5.00 pm. Entrance free. A series of
lectures will take place every Wednesday during the exhibition.
