DEAR PEGGY: LETTERS TO THE EDITOR peggy-north@monthlyherald.com
TERRORISTS
WILL KILL MANY AMERICANS. IT IS TIME TO GET OUT! WHEN BUSH IS GOING TO
UNDERSTAND THIS?
To the editor: Iraq's interim prime minister said Wednesday he was determined to confront the mastermind of bombings and beheadings who threatened to assassinate him, and the U.S. military said it killed 20 foreign fighters at the suspected terrorist's hideout. A recording purportedly made by Jordanian-born terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi threatened to kill interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi and many of us, and to fight the Americans "until Islamic rule is back on Earth." I just left Iraq because I could not take it anymore. Sunnis and Shiaas alike hate our guts. When Bush is going to begin to understand this? My Iraqi friends who tried to protect me made it clear to me that the Iraqi officials are secretly supporting those who are calling on total American pull out. It is time to get out of Iraq. After the slaying of the Korean guy, U.S. forces launched an air strike on Al-Zarqawi hideout in Fallujah, and as usual they missed. Instead of killing Al Zarqawi, they killed innocent citizens. None of the terrorists was killed. What a mess! Ken Weber, Baghdad, Iraq.
END OF PRIVACY AND CIVIL RIGHTS IN AMERICA? I DON'T THINK SO!
Dear Ms North: Our government is broking now privacy law. The law enforcement officers are now asking airlines to turn over personal data about passengers for a test of background-check, and four airlines companies already gave the government information about their passengers. How do like that? Are we living now in a police state? Yolanda Clark, the Homeland Security Department's privacy officer is investigating the government agency's involvement in the data-sharing from airlines. The information, known as passenger name records, includes credit card numbers, travel reservation details, address and telephone number. It also could mean meal requests, which can indicate a passenger's religion or ethnicity. This is the end of privacy and civil rights in America! Anthony Bacchus, Virginia, USA.
Dear Anthony: One ounce of precaution is better than one pound of regrets. Your government is trying to protect your life.-Peggy.
